SHORE BIRDS MIGRATION IS A 20,000 KM ROUND TRIP!
Broome and the Kimberley has an amazing diversity of birds, over 330 species within a 70km radius.
Roebuck Bay is regarded as the most significant site in Australia for shorebirds.
Some of the birds included in this collection are the Tawny Frogmouth Owl, the Blue Winged Kookaburra, the Great Egret and a Collared Sparrow Hawk with a freshly caught dragon lizard between his claws.

ENTRANCE POINT
Entrance Point is located between the Fishing Club and the Broome Port. It has a carpark that leads to two boat ramps.
The rock formations around this area are truly stunning, and in the wet season the sunsets are breath taking. To the left of entrance point is another amazing beach called Simpsons Beach (near the hovercraft) and to the right is the beautiful Reddell Beach.

TAWNY FROGMOUTH
One of my favourite birds, their feathers are extraordinarily soft. I found this out in a tragic way when trying to rescue a baby that had fallen from its nest.
They are very hard to spot, as they camouflage so well, often being mistaken for a branch!

COLLARED SPARROWHAWK
A bird of prey, the Collared Sparrowhawk eats small birds, lizards, insects, and even small mammals.
The image on left shows a freshly killed Ta Ta Lizard between his talons.
They are one of the few raptors that frequent suburban gardens.

BLACK FACED WOOD SWALLOW
Black faced woodswallows are sedentary (remaining in one area) to locally nomadic.

EGRETS
Not strictly a Kimberley Bird, it was one of the few birds that I was able to get close enough to, to take a decent photo 😊

KIMBERLEY FLY CATCHER
Found almost entirely in mangroves around the Kimberley coast of Western Australia, from Broome around to Cambridge Gulf, these birds build the smallest nest of any bird in Australia.
They lay only one egg.
